Research on the Ulten Zone rocks as witnesses of eclogitization and metasomatic fluid-mediated exchange between crust and mantle at subduction zones has been spread in the National and International community by Lauro Morten during his long-standing research career. The Ulten Zone area was not only the favourite research field of Lauro, but also his homeland and beloved mountains. Lauro has been a great colleague, a fellow and a teacher to us: it is our pleasure to remember and thank him here for all he gave us during his life, as a scientist and as a man. We also acknowledge our colleagues Giovanna Sapienza, Joerg Hermann, Paolo Nimis, Simone Tumiati, Alberto Zanetti, Stefano Poli, and Patrizia Fumagalli, for many constructive discussion, for help, and for sharing with us the research work on the Ulten Zone peridotites. Granting has been provided by the Italian MIUR through PRIN COFIN projects in the last five years to the Universities of Bologna, Genova and Milano.
