68. Rotation of allanite clasts - This allanite in protomylonitic granodiorite near Borrego Springs, southern California, has broken into several fragments which have subsequently rotated during deformation. A single stable crack (does not extend beyond grain boundaries) is visible in the large grain at center.

FOV 1.5 mm, Plane Light.

69. Stable cracks in allanite - This single allanite grain in mylonitic granodiorite near Borrego Springs, looks quite undeformed, apart from a number of stable cracks. However, the lower right part of the grain is a little darker than the rest of it, indicating that the lattice has been riddled with microcracks.

FOV 1.5 mm, Plane Light.
